Overview of FMGE Exam; Understanding the Exam Pattern to ensure success.

Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE) in India. It is a licensing exam that assesses the knowledge and competence of Indian nationals or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) who have obtained their medical qualifications from foreign institutions and wish to practice medicine in India.

If you are a candidate who has completed medical education from a foreign country but wishes to practice in India, then FMGE is the key for you. The exam is conducted twice a year, usually in June and December. The candidates are allowed a maximum of three attempts to clear FMGE. However, if the aspirant is not able to clear FMGE in three attempts, they will not be eligible for any further attempts.

FMGE Exam Pattern

The FMGE exam pattern is divided into two parts – Part A and Part B. The exam consists of 300 multiple-choice questions that cover subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, etc. The mode of examination is only in English, and the duration of the exam is 2 hours and 30 minutes. One mark will be awarded for each correct answer, and there will be no negative marking.

To pass the exam, candidates need to score a minimum of 150 marks out of 300. Exactly 50% is required to qualify for the examination. The only exemption to FMGE is for medical graduates from countries like Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States of America, and Australia. They are exempted from attempting the exam and can obtain a provisional or permanent certificate from the National Medical Commission or State Medical Council. Once these certificates are submitted, they can practice medicine in India.

FMGE is a crucial step for foreign-educated doctors to practice in India. To pass the exam, candidates need to prepare for the FMGE exam well and have a thorough understanding of the basic medical concepts and their application in clinical situations. With proper dedication and hard work, this dream can come true. Good luck!
