The Occupational English Test (OET) is an English Language test for healthcare professionals. The exam tests the language proficiency of a healthcare professional who wishes to work in an English-speaking workplace. Here we will go into detail all you need to know about the OET Listening test.
OET Listening testÂ
The OET Listening test includes three parts with a total duration of 40 minutes to complete. There will be 42 questions in total where each question is weighed equally.
OET Listening Test – Part AÂ
OET Part A consists of consultation extracts. This part focuses on listening for details. You will be listening to a conversation extract between a patient and a healthcare professional that will be followed by questions. There will be two such extracts followed by twelve questions per extract in this part.
OET Listening Test – Part BÂ
OET Part B consists of short workplace extracts. It is designed to test a range of listening skills and focuses on listening for gist, purpose, detail and function. You will hear a short workplace conversation between two colleagues or between a healthcare professional and a patient.
OET Listening Test – Part C
OET Part C test consists of lecture extracts. This part tests a range of listening skills including listening for gist, attitude and opinion. The extracts in this part will be in a presentation or an interview format where a healthcare professional is speaking about a general topic on healthcare. You will be given two long extracts followed by six multiple-choice questions per extract.
