The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) has achieved another milestone by establishing a regional centre in the Birmingham United Kingdom. Furthermore, the centre would organize workshops, interactive academic sessions and conferences for FCPS aspirants. Lastly, it will also hold theory-written examinations from the coming academic calendar.
CPSP Over the Years
The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan has sent over 300 postgraduate trainees in junior and senior fellowship schemes to four top-level university hospitals in the United Kingdom. These include Queen Elizabeth Hospital, University Hospital Birmingham, Leeds University Hospital, and Walsall Manor Hospital.
More About the Venture
President of CPSP, Professor Muhammad Shoaib Shafi believes that the endeavour will improve the image of the country among the nations. In addition, the CPSP has already established centres in Kathmandu (Nepal), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), and the Republic of Ireland (Dublin).
The CPSP is also in conversation with chief executives of the NHS trust teaching hospitals. Furthermore, a significant number of senior Pakistani and British consultants attended the event organized by the CPSP in the UK. Lastly, a large volume of international trainees in the United Kingdom are from Pakistan’s College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.
Nearly 12 university hospitals in the United Kingdom have requested the CPSP to start the Fellowship Exchange programme. They have been informed that the CPSP Inspection Team for Accreditation will visit them before signing the MOU.
CPSP trainee doctors in the United Kingdom are offered jobs there. However, CPSP council is of the view that the trainees from Pakistan would have to come back to Pakistan to serve people in the country. Besides, the motto of CPSP is brain gain, not brain drain.
According to College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan Council policy, all doctors after training in the United Kingdom under the CPSP program would have to return to Pakistan after two years due to the CPSP’s strict monitoring system.
