EFOG-EBCOG: Overview of the Certification Process of the European Board

Get To Know EFOG-EBCOG Exam

The EFOG exam is conducted to determine whether the candidate demonstrates the minimum level of knowledge recognized by the EBCOG examination committee.

It further assesses the knowledge gained by the candidates during their training in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The assessment also takes into account the application of this knowledge to clinical cases. Lastly, it is based on the EBCOG training syllabus.

The EFOG-EBCOG exam consists of two parts.

EFOG Part 1 is a Knowledge Based Assessment (KBA) and EFOG Part 2 is a Clinical Skills Assessment (OSCE). Participation in the exam is dependent on the eligibility of the candidate. A candidate may attempt Part 2 of the examination, only after passing Part 1.

Certificate of the EFOG-EBCOG will be awarded when a candidate passes both parts of the examination.

Successful candidates become EBCOG Fellows in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EFOG-EBCOG). They will be given a certificate of Fellowship.

Both European and non-European candidates can attempt the examination. It is conducted in English.

Final decision regarding the eligibility of the candidates is at the discretion of EBCOG Examination Standing Committee. The Committee assesses the qualifications of the individuals.

EBCOG Formative Assessment

EBCOG has been carrying out a final summative assessment for specialty trainee doctors since 2016. This is for the award of European Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynaecology – EFOG-EBCOG.

Trainees have requested the introduction of new tools for their assessment during their training. This request was made after the implementation of the European Training Curriculum (PACT) by EBCOG-UEMS.

EBCOG has recently introduced a formative assessment tool for the initial phase of specialist training. The tool will further help trainees to prepare for the final examination.

This can be utilized by both training and non-training doctors all over the world. In addition, it can be useful for self-assessment at an early stage of the training.

This assessment tool will map the newly introduced EBCOG curriculum (PACT).

Two levels of assessment are in place. Assessment 1 and Assessment 2 can be undertaken at any time after completing first and second year of training. These formative assessments are independent of the EFOG-EBCOG exams.

Hope you found this information helpful. All the best for your EFOG-EBCOG Exam.
