The FRCR exam consists of three parts: FRCR Part 1, FRCR Part 2A, and FRCR Part 2B.
FRCR Part 1 primarily tests candidates’ knowledge in anatomy, physics, and basic clinical radiology. To pass the examination, one must excel in both Anatomy and Physics components. Candidates can take both parts together. A comprehensive understanding of these concepts is necessary to clear the examination in a single go.
FRCR Part 2A is divided into two sections, each containing 120 Single Best Answer (SBA) questions. This Part covers a wide range of topics, including Cardiothoracic and Vascular, Musculoskeletal and Trauma, Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary (including Adrenals), Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatric, Central Nervous System, and Head & Neck. Thorough preparation in these areas is crucial for success.
FRCR Part 2B is the final stage of the FRCR exam. This assessment evaluates candidates’ knowledge and skills through clinical scenarios involving interactions with patients, consultants, and other healthcare professionals. It consists of two oral exams, a reporting session, and a rapid reporting session. The reporting sessions take place on the same day, while the oral examination typically occurs 3-7 days later.
It’s important to note that candidates have a limit of six attempts for all FRCR examinations. After reaching this limit, they must provide evidence of additional educational experience to continue their training.
