MRCEM Intermediate exam is for the comprehensive assessment of aspirants’ knowledge and abilities in handling emergency situations. Here, the ability of the aspirants and their awareness in the whole variety of conditions and presentations that may present to the Emergency Department is carefully analyzed by the examiners.

MRCEM Intermediate Exam Pattern

MRCEM Intermediate exam primarily consists of 180 Single Best Answer (SBA) questions. This includes multiple choice questions (MCQs) and extended matching questions (EMQs). This two paper examination lasts for a period of two hours. An hour’s break is provided in the middle of the exam.

Who Can Sit for the MRCEM Intermediate Examination?

Aspirants with a medical qualification approved by the General Medical Council (GMC).

Aspirants who have achieved a suggested IELTS score of at least level 7

For the MRCEM Intermediate, candidates must successfully pass the Primary examination.

For the MRCEM OSCE, candidates must have cleared both the Primary and MRCEM Intermediate SBA examinations.

Candidates aiming for MRCEM OSCE are required to have a minimum of 24 months of post-qualification experience, with at least six months of experience in Emergency Medicine at the post FY1/intern level.

Applications will open at 10.00am on the morning of the application opening date and close automatically at 5.00pm (UK time) on the listed closing date. Applications must be completed before 5.00pm on the closing date, late applications will not be accepted.
